The museum invited nine musicians into Auckland Museum to choose a gallery which would inspire them to write a new track – These tracks gave visitors the chance to experience a different perspective by donning headphones and exploring the Museum’s galleries. The key messages were “Take another look – see with fresh ears” and “Connection through Innovation”.
The unique proposition with this project was that the museum intended to connect with new and existing audiences through innovative, fresh programmes. This was also a significant project as this was the first time a New Zealand museum had run a programme of this kind. The objective of the website was to promote the Sonic Museum in a contemporary, sophisticated fashion, and tie it into the established LATE AT THE MUSEUM sub-brand in a way which still appealed to the target demographic.
Zest Media was engaged to provide design and multimedia solutions for the Sonic Museum project. With this project we were able to deliver a solution which provides a unique experience to the user by way of Flash delivered music content, imagery from the exhibition, and online music shop integration with a third party service provider, Amplifier.co.nz. The site was delivered using the Museum’s existing legacy CMS system.
Zest Media was able to circumvent the severe restrictions of this system in order to deliver the contemporary site design and functionality that was mandated by the Museum’s wish to deliver content to the public using only the latest and most up to date media solutions.
